Conservación en América Latina

En 2015, fui nombrado profesor titular (con permanencia) y tomé un año sabático en el Instituto Nelson, financiado por la Fundación Tinker. Al año siguiente, recibí un premio por mis contribuciones a la Ciencia Veterinaria por parte del Colegio de Veterinarios de Chile. Actualmente, soy miembro de la junta directiva de la Red de Asia Pacífico para la Educación Forestal, el contacto para Chile de la Red de Ecoseguridad y el Coordinador de la próxima Red Internacional de Biodiversidad para la Innovación en Conservación.

Mi compromiso con la conservación y la vida silvestre va más allá de la academia y la investigación. He participado continuamente en colaboraciones que abarcan continentes y culturas, con el objetivo de mejorar nuestra comprensión y protección del mundo natural. A través de mi trabajo, me esfuerzo por cerrar la brecha entre la investigación científica y los esfuerzos prácticos de conservación, asegurando que nuestros hallazgos se traduzcan en beneficios concretos para los ecosistemas y sus habitantes.

Conservación de la Vida Silvestre en Chile

Fauna Australis ha llevado a cabo investigaciones y conservación en el terreno en diferentes ecosistemas de Chile. Los principales proyectos son:

  • Conservación y Uso Sostenible de la Vicuña en Parinacota.
  • Conflicto entre Tarucas y Guanacos y la Agricultura en la provincia de Parinacota.
  • Resolución de conflictos entre pumas y ganadería en el Parque Nacional Volcán Isluga.
  • Estrategia de conservación regional para el Desierto de Atacama (La importancia de los Camelidos Sudamericanos).
  • Vertebrados terrestres de la región de Tarapacá (Un gradiente altitudinal para vertebrados terrestres).
  • Carnívoros silvestres y el efecto de perros asilvestrados en el Parque Nacional La Campana-Peñuelas.
  • El efecto de perros asilvestrados en la biodiversidad de los Andes de Chile central.
  • Conservación de la vida silvestre en la región de La Araucanía.
  • Especies invasoras en el norte de la Patagonia.
  • Uso sostenible de Guanacos en la Región Metropolitana y la Patagonia.
  • El efecto del turismo en los pumas en el Parque Nacional Torres del Paine.
  • Visón americano invasor en la isla Navarino.
